Extension Council On-Line Election

Each year every county in Missouri has an extension council election.  County extension councils are the governing body for the local educational opportunities provided by the University of Missouri Extension. Council member work with extension faculty in making decisions concerning extension programs, personnel, council elections and the local extension office budget. Extension council members are elected to serve a two-year term to represent the diverse educational needs and backgrounds of the people of Taney county.  The Taney County Extension Council election will run from Monday, January 8th through Tuesday, January 16, 2018.  The on-line link will open Monday morning, January 8th and close at the end of the business day 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16th.

Candidates for the 2018 Taney County Election are:

Eastern district:  Mark McSpadden - Branson, Hammons Schanda - Forsyth, Denver West - Protem, John Whitley - Forsyth (Eastern District Bios)

Western district: Chip Arnette - Branson, Susan Bearden - Branson, Mercedes Botica - Branson, Luanna LaVielle-Fullerton - Branson (Western District Bios)

Any Taney county resident 18 or older will be able to vote on-line by logging onto our website at and clicking on the "2018 Council Election" link.  Voters will be asked to select and Eastern or Western district ballot based on their past voting in county commission elections.  Once there, residents will be asked to vote for four council candidates for the eastern district and five for the western district.  Short biographies on the candidates will be available on line also.  Residents without internet access or those who would prefer paper ballots can request one by calling the office at 417-546-4431 or visiting the Taney County MU Extension center at 122 Felkins Avenue in Forsyth January 8-16, 2018.  Paper ballots must be postmarked and returned to the Extension Center no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16th. 

VITA Taxes

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is a free service provided in Stone, Christian and Taney Counties. We will begin taking appointments on January 16, 2018. Guidelines: Taxpayers with an AGI of $57,000 or less can get Free Tax Preparation. Families meeting additional requirements are eligible for a credit of up to $6,318. (Volunteers are not trained to do business taxes, the long forms or capital gains and losses. If you have any of these you should see a paid preparer.) 

 Items you MUST have with you: 

(1). Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and each of your dependent children; Form W-2 for every job you or your spouse worked in 2017; (2). A personal check (for your checking account and routing number) if you want your refund direct deposited; (3). If you have Marketplace granted health coverage exemption, bring your exemption certificate number; if you have insurance through the marketplace, bring form 1095A; (4). Your 2016 tax return (optional)

In 2017, did you....   

(1). Receive unemployment compensation? Bring your Form 1099G; (2). Pay for child care? Bring the total paid for child care expenses and the name, address, and Tax ID/Social Security Number of the child care provider. (3). Pay student loan interest? Bring the total of the student loan interest you paid. (4). Pay for tuition? Bring Form 1098 for you, your spouse, and/or dependent children.

Private Pesticide Applicator Training

The training provides certification to obtain a Missouri Private Pesticide Applicators License for agricultural producers and will also count for recertification requirements by the state. The training will not certify for commercial applicators licenses. Must be 18 years old or older. The training will last 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Cost for the training is $25.00 for all who attend. (unlike the past, you do not need to bring your copy of the Private Applicator Reference Manual M87). Training is conducted by Tim Schnakenberg, Regional Agronomy Specialist (417-357-6812). Barry County - Tuesday, February 13, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at the Barry County Courthouse Commission Room, 700 Main Street OR at 5:30 p.m. at the Cassville High School Vo-Ag Department at 1501 Main Street/ Hwy Y - take Main/Hwy Y to Partridge Street and turn East, then turn left at the first drive going behind the Intermediate School. Light meal provided for the 5:30 program only (compliments of the Vo-Ag Department, Cassville MO. Preregistration Required - 417-847-3161.

Master Gardeners of the Ozarks State Conference

Master Gardeners of the Ozarks will host the 2018 Missouri Master Gardener State Conference on September 28, 29, & 30, 2018.  This conference will be held at the Chateau on the Lake Resort, Spa & Conference Center, Branson Missouri. More information will be posted when available.
