So, what is an Extension Council and how can you get involved?
In all 114 Missouri counties, an MU county extension council, of elected and appointed citizens, guides local educational programming. County council members are partners in the entire educational process, from needs assessment through program implementation and evaluation of outcomes.

An Introduction to Prevailing Wage and Service Contracting Laws Seminar
Join Labor Education Specialist, Rob Russell and PTAC Specialist, Millie Miller-Hoover, for a two-day seminar on Prevailing Wage and Service Contracting Laws. The seminar is $20 per session (per person).

The Fundamentals of Selling to the Government-The First Steps
The federal government awards more than $500 billion dollars in contracts annually to small business owners. Are you ready to market yourself to the world’s largest customer?
Our office will be presenting four seminars on how to sell to the government. Each seminar will last three hours and will focus on the critical first steps to becoming a government contractor, how to identify opportunities and understanding the contracting process. The seminar will also cover MO PTAC (Procurement Technical Assistance Center) services available to assist Missouri businesses in all aspects of government contracting. From 8/1/2014 thru 7/31/ 2015 MO PTAC assisted small businesses receive $487M worth of federal contracts.
Each seminar will be on a Thursday at our office at 10650 Gateway Blvd., Creve Coeur, 63132 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. The next seminar is:

Bailey Lutz Joins our Faculty as a STEM Educator
Bailey is a recent graduate of Saint Louis University with her Bachelors of Arts in Environmental Science. She is excited to join the 4-H team as a STEM educator and share with others the importance of hands on education with today's youth. Bailey will be working on the 4-H Tech Wizards program, which is being replicated around the U.S. through National Mentoring Program grants from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the National 4-H Council.
In addition her position with the University of Missouri Extension, Bailey also works part time at the Saint Louis Zoo in the Education department where she leads overnight programs teaching visitors about animals and how zoo keepers take care of animals. She is passionate about science and our environment, and enjoys sharing that with others.
Bailey is also a volunteer with Relay for Life where she manages volunteers, organizes activities, and schedules entertainment and events to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Kandace Fisher-McLean Obtains her Ph.D.

Leslie Bertsch joins our faculty
Leslie Bertsch, MS, MPH, RD, LD
MU Extension, Nutrition and Health Education Specialist
Mrs. Bertsch currently serves as MU Extension- St. Louis County’ s newest Nutrition and Health Education Specialist. Leslie comes to MU Extension with 10 years of experience in community/public health nutrition. Prior to joining Extension, Leslie was the Director of Nutrition Education at Operation Food Search. For five years, she led a team of nutritionists administering a community nutrition education program for food-insecure families in the St. Louis Metro Area. As a public health practitioner, Leslie believes that providing preventative education services to residents and leading community organizations to implement better health and wellness policies will provide the tools needed for everyone to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Leslie is excited to be part of the MU Extension family and is looking forward to providing research-based health education to all residents living in the St. Louis Metro Area. Leslie currently lives in West St. Louis County with her husband and when not out in the community teaching, you can usually find her outside being active.

Her class demonstrates making your own environmentally-friendly cleaners at home. All supplies will be provided. Craft your own cleaner, test it out and take it home! Fee: $15.
