To be successful in marketing, you must gain a deep understanding of your customers’ needs and problems and communicate to them how you will solve their problems.

Four P’s of Marketing:

  • Price
  • Product
  • Place
  • Promotion

At least one of the P’s needs to be different from a competitor in order to be successful. Once you’ve determined that that is, communicate it clearly in all of your promotional communications.

Your customer wants to know is, “What’s in it for me?” Communicate that point concisely in all of your marketing materials.

Use consistent, clear messaging and use the MU Extension logo correctly.

Office protocols

Standard office protocols across the state will help deliver a consistent identity to our clientele.

Telephone answering

Answer office telephones with "University of Missouri Extension in (your) county." 

Telephone directory

White Pages: List under "U" as "University of Missouri Extension." Also, list alphabetically under county name.

Yellow Pages or Blue (Government) Pages: List under county government. May be listed under Universities and Colleges in yellow pages: "University of Missouri Extension."
