  • The Salt River Master Gardeners formed officially in 2000. The group consists of Master Gardeners from Lewis, Marion, Monroe, Pike, Ralls, and Shelby counties. The group holds monthly meetings, and participates in a wealth of community activities, including the Garden ‘n Grow program. Service record forms for the 2006 year are now due.  Blank forms are available here, and should be returned to Jennifer Schutter as soon as possible. 
  • Missouri Fruit and Vegetable Growers Database  This new marketing tool will allow potential buyers to search for Missouri growers who produce specific crops. They will be able to limit their search to a specific region of the state, if the crop is organically or conventionally produced, the marketing method, and other parameters.
  • Composting Home and Garden Waste The average American throws away nearly one pound of coffee grounds and fruit and vegetable peelings each day.  Learn what you can do to reduce the amount of garbage you send to the landfill, while benefiting your soil with a rich soil amendment.
  • Controlling Voles Have you been wondering what those 1- to 2-inch holes in your field are lawn are from? Well, more than likely, they're caused by prairie voles. No, not moles.

This is a list of the programs, events and activities that MU Extension faculty plan to conduct in the Northeast Region between June 1, 2008 and May 30, 2009.  To read a description of any program on the list, select (click on) the program name.  You will be taken to the program description.  If you want to know when a program, event or activity will be conducted, go to the MU Extension Statewide Calendar.  Search for the program by name.  At the Statewide Calendar, you may also search for the program by name only within the Northeast Region.  If the program, activity or event you want to attend is not on the Statewide Calendar, contact your local (county) MU Extension County Program Director for the information.

Garden 'n Grow - The Missouri Garden 'n Grow Program is a summer volunteer gardening program developed for 9 to 13 year old youths.  In the program, youths learn not only vegetable gardening, but also "cultivate" other science, math, and language arts skills.  The goals of the Garden 'n Grow Program are to experience the fun of gardening, to enjoy a feeling of success, and to have the satisfaction of sharing harvested food with others in need.  Vegetables harvested from the gardens are for home use and donation to a local food agencies. http://horticulture.missouri.edu/gng/index.htm

Master Gardeners - Master Gardeners are adults of all ages who love gardening and who have previous gardening experience.  They are members of the local community who are interested in lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, gardens, and the environment.  Master Gardener training is a two component program which consists of 12 weeks of course training (one three hour class per week), and 30 hours of volunteer service your first year, and 20 hours each year thereafter.  http://outreach.missouri.edu/mg/ (statewide) or http://outreach.missouri.edu/adair/horticulture/mg/  for NE Region.

Missouri Grown Vegetable Production - is a program designed to provide assistance for Missouri vegetable growers.  Information on production methods, marketing, diseases, disorders, and insects is available for growers.

Plant Protection for the 21st Century - includes soil testing, pesticide applicator training and disease and insect diagnostics for homeowners, home gardeners, and commercial growers.
