What is FNEP

Nutrition Education for Low-Income Missourians
The Family Nutrition Education Programs (FNEP) are an important part of University Outreach and Extension- bringing the latest nutrition information to low-income Missourians.  FNEP helps clients achieve life long health and fitness. Paraprofessional nutrition educators work with clients individually and in groups- in their homes, in schools, and at agencies. Clients gain skills that pave the way for nutritional well-being and health. Programs include EFNEP, the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program and FNP, the Family Nutrition Program.

Programs Tailored to Meet Your Clients' Needs
FNEP provides programming that meets your clients' needs considering age, culture, reading level, and abilities. Lessons with hands-on activities are designed for youth and the adults that support them, pregnant teens, and immigrant populations. 

Success Equals Skills
Program success means life long skills for clients. Often clients tell us how FNEP has impacted their lives, even years after they have participated. A nutrition educator relayed this story:

A young woman who was a client approached the nutrition educator. This client was enrolled in the program when she was a young child, and is now a mother of three children herself.  She asked the educator to teach her children the same lessons that she had received when she was a child. She said the skills that she learned over ten years ago as a child were now helping her raise her three small children. 

FNEP nutrition educators receive many testimonials from clients. Each day there are new stories that bring home the same important message: FNEP makes a difference, a difference that means better health and fitness for a lifetime.

How to Get Involved

Community partners are vital in getting FNEP to the clients who need it. You can get involved!
Here's how:

• Refer clients to the program

• Serve on an advisory committee

• Offer space, personnel time or equipment

• Contribute cash
