Guidelines used for the selection and recognition of Missouri Century Farms:

  • The same family must have owned the farm for 100 consecutive years or more as of Dec. 31, 2019.
  • The line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, grandchildren, siblings and nephews and nieces, including through marriage or adoption.
  • The present farm shall consist of no less than 40 acres of the original land and shall make a financial contribution to the overall farm income.

Applications are available Feb.1 through May 15 from the MU Extension office in your county or from University of Missouri-Century Farms, Extension Publications, 506 Hitt St., Whitten Hall, Room 4, Columbia, MO 65211.

A fee of $75 (if you apply by May 1) is required to cover processing costs, one certificate, a booklet and one two-sided, 2-foot by 2-foot metal sign (includes MU and Missouri Farm Bureau logos) for each approved farm.

Completed application, order form and a check made payable to University of Missouri-Century Farms for the total amount should be returned to the MU Extension office in the county where your farm is located or mailed to University of Missouri-Century Farms, Extension Publications, 506 Hitt St., Whitten Hall, Room 4, Columbia, MO 65211.

MU Extension marketing campaign promotes healthy eating, physical activity

University of Missouri Extension’s Family Nutrition Program has launched a social marketing campaign in July and August to promote healthy eating, physical activity and gardening. The goal of “Live Like Your Life Depends On It” is to reduce the risk for chronic disease by encouraging healthy behaviors in adults. The message is being spread via billboards, posters, fliers and social media.
