Partnering with the Greene County Commonwealth newspaper, participants in this leadership development program will come to understand the local issues facing communities in western Greene County. They will share that they are learning with the public through community editorials published in the Greene County Commonwealth. A Matter of Balance - St. Charles (Session 2 of 8)

A Matter of Balance is an award winning program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falls. There will also be information on how to set realistic goals for increasing activity, as well as how to change their environment to reduce fall risk factors. The eight-session series helps participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable. If you share these concerns and are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength, this class is for you.

Chronic Disease Self-Management (Session 6 of 6)

Are you affected by one or more chronic health conditions, such as arthritis, asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure? Are you a caregiver for someone with a chronic condition? Actively engaging in one's health, through self-management techniques and physical activities can help to improve quality of life. This workshop is an evidence based program developed at Stanford University which provides a toolkit of techniques to assist in self-management of chronic illnesses.

Private Pesticide Applicator Training in Waynesville (Pulaski County)

Description:

Missouri law requires all purchasers and users of restricted-use pesticides to attend a training session to be certified for a private applicators license. During this training, participants will learn about safe handling of pesticides, proper mixing, calibration techniques, environmental ramifications of improper mixing or careless application, chemical breakdown of pesticides in the environment, what records are needed, pesticide formulations, personal protective wear and how to clean it, pesticide storage, common MO pests, and integrated pest management (IPM).

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 (Session 9 of 18)

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy is an exercise program designed to help keep older adults active. Over this 8 week program, participants learn exercises to improve their strength, flexibility and balance. During each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.
