Description:

A Food Policy Council is a group of organizations and committed individuals who work collaboratively to improve the local food system to provide better access to healthy foods in a community. To be most effective, the group must be diverse and represent all sectors of the food system (production, consumption, processing, distribution, and waste recycling).

As Vice Chair of the Joplin Food Action Network, I meet with other board members once a month to plan our monthly meeting and other JFAN events. JFAN itself meets once a month with health professionals, food pantry managers, farmers markets, and other community members to discuss what's been happening and where the council needs to be going.
