    Master Gardener Intensive Core Series - Lake Ozark (Session 5 of 5)

    Description:

    Provides in depth horticulture training for Missourians who wish to spread their knowledge of gardening. Prepares volunteers for horticulture questions frequently asked by citizens around the state, based on unbiased research based gardening information.

    Registration:

    The cost is $150 for a minimum of 30 hours training and a commitment to give 30 hours of volunteer service in the first year and 20 hours each year after.
    Individual classes for non-volunteers are $20 each; Fees include written materials for each class.

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1, Drury University (Session 1 of 16)

    When:  Monday, July 1, 2019, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

    Description:

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide inactive middle-aged and older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

    SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (Session 3 of 18)

    When:  Monday, July 1, 2019, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

    Description:

    This is a low-impact strength training program for people who are 50 or better. The class meets for 1 hour, twice a week for 8 weeks to complete a series of eight exercises with a warm-up and cool down. This program helps participants increase their physical activity which may improve strength, balance and flexibility, resulting in reduced risk for falls, better overall health and greater independence.

    A Matter of Balance (Session 5 of 8)

    Matter of Balance is an award winning program that focuses on reducing the fear of falling and increasing the activity levels of older adults who may have concerns about falls. The 8-week course includes information on how to set realistic goals for increasing physical activity, how to view falls and the fear of falling as controllable, and how to make changes in your home and environment to prevent falls. The program is free but class space is limited. Light refreshments and workbook included.
