Where:
Doniphan Middle School cafeteria
Doniphan MO

Description:

This is a program in teaching children life lessons by using the activity of chess. The students learn better decision making skills. The activity gives them the chance to become focus and look at options. It enables the students to visualize how everyone around them are important and have a role to play and that even the most significant person can later have a major impact on their lives. Students are shown three phases of life; the beginning where students learn that in the beginning you are learning how the game will begin. Just like in life, school is preparing them for their adult lives. In the middle game, students are putting pieces in place that allow them to succeed in the game as one would do in the work place. Finally the end, as people prepare for retirement, they get an idea of how easy or difficult life can be based on their earlier moves in life. The ultimate goal is for students to realize they are the king in the game and must be protected at all times.

Session topic:

This session was about being patient and paying attention. The intent is to get students to slow down and look at their options before choosing, just like in life we want to slow down and make the best possible choice. Paying attention is important in life in that how do you know best options if you are not aware of what is happening around you.

$0.00
