The Basics of Writing a Business Plan

Description:

This course is for current and future business owners and entrepreneurs who have little or no knowledge of writing a business plan. "The Basics of Writing a Business Plan" is designed for business owners and managers who need to know how to create a business plan for their organization so the plan can be a useful management tool. During this course, participants will learn the importance of business plans, the key required elements of a basic plan and data that must be included. Participants will also get tips on writing style to make the business plan easier to understand and more professional in appearance. Participants will leave this session with a greater understanding of what their business plan should look like and how to get started writing one. It will also provide guidelines for style and appearance to help create a professional look for your business plan. Discussions are facilitated by business counselors who will help you examine your individual situation, explore opportunities and discover new ideas. You'll learn from other participants and have a host of valuable resources available to you.

Orientations will be held on Jan. 31 and Feb. 2 from 6-8 pm at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center. Contact Kelly McGowan at mcgowank@missouri.edu to register for orientation. Training classes will begin on Feb. 16 and be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1-4 pm through April 11. All classes but 2 will be held at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center; the additional 2 will be held at the Springfield-Greene County Library Station.

Pond Management Workshop

This workshop will be held at the University of Missouri Extension Oregon County Office located in the basement of the Oregon County Courthouse in Alton.

Description:

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and University of Missouri Extension will host a pond management workshop in Oregon County in March. The workshop is designed for anyone who has, or would like to install a pond on their property. Blake Stephens, MDC fisheries management biologist, will discuss pond construction considerations, the best ways to manage pond fish and improve your personal fishery. Common problems with fish populations such as aquatic plant habitat and water quality are on the workshop agenda. Landowners can expect opportunities to interact and ask questions of local conservation professionals. A representative from the Oregon County Soil and Water Conservation District will also be present to provide information on cost-share availability for ponds.
