Missouri Master Naturalist (Session 4 of 17)

Description:

Help protect the natural resources of Camden, Miller, Morgan and surrounding counties by becoming a Missouri Master Naturalist. The Missouri Master Naturalist program is a community-based, adult natural resource education and volunteer program designed to engage Missourians in the stewardship of our state's natural resources. Registration has begun for the Lake of the Ozarks Master Naturalist certification training course. An orientation session will be held January 17 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Mo. Dept of Conservation Office, Thunder Mountain Road, Camdenton, MO. Closing date for the spring training registration is January 31st and class size is limited. Training sessions will be held at the Mo. Dept of Conservation office, Thunder Mountain Road, Camdenton, MO. from 6-9 pm on Wednesdays beginning February 28th and ending May 23th. Three Saturday field trips are included. The 50-hour course will teach you about Missouri's natural resource ecology and management. After graduation, participants are asked to provide 40 hours of volunteer service on land management, citizen science, education, and other conservation related projects in the local community and participate in eight hours of advanced training opportunities. 2018 Grow Your Farm Miller County (Session 3 of 10)

Description:

Grow Your Farm is designed for prospective farmers, beginners with some experience and seasoned farmers who want to make a "new beginning" with alternative farming methods. MU Extension specialists and experienced, innovative farmers teach the sessions. Participants attend a set of practical seminars and field days to learn from MU Extension specialists, farmers and agribusiness operators.This course will help you: Identify and prioritize personal and family values and use them as the foundation for the farm mission statement and goals. Learn how to "walk the farm" to assess the land and its facilities. Learn to evaluate the feasibility of particular farm opportunities. Understand the components of a business plan and create one of your own. Understand financial aspects of a business plan and review popular tools to manage financial records. Consider different types of agricultural marketing and draft a marketing plan. Become familiar with a variety of legal issues that pertain to farming enterprises. Get Planting In Ash Grove (Session 1 of 2)

Description:

Katie Keith, director of the Springfield Botanical Gardens and participant in EXCEL, is hosting a garden cleanup party and roundtable discussion about garden adopters for Ash Grove. She plans to use her experience in volunteer coordination to develop a core group of community volunteers and leaders to adopt city garden spots like those at the city welcome signs and the “community triangle” on Maple Street. But, interested volunteers are needed. In exchange for labor and leadership, volunteers will receive training in horticulture topics.
