Randolph County Youth EXCEL 2017-2018 (Session 8 of 9)

Applications are currently being accepted for the Randolph County Youth EXCEL 2017-2018 class. Missouri Master Naturalist (Session 3 of 17)

Description:

Help protect the natural resources of Camden, Miller, Morgan and surrounding counties by becoming a Missouri Master Naturalist. The Missouri Master Naturalist program is a community-based, adult natural resource education and volunteer program designed to engage Missourians in the stewardship of our state's natural resources. Registration has begun for the Lake of the Ozarks Master Naturalist certification training course. An orientation session will be held January 17 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Mo. Dept of Conservation Office, Thunder Mountain Road, Camdenton, MO. Closing date for the spring training registration is January 31st and class size is limited. Training sessions will be held at the Mo. Dept of Conservation office, Thunder Mountain Road, Camdenton, MO. from 6-9 pm on Wednesdays beginning February 28th and ending May 23th. Three Saturday field trips are included. The 50-hour course will teach you about Missouri's natural resource ecology and management. After graduation, participants are asked to provide 40 hours of volunteer service on land management, citizen science, education, and other conservation related projects in the local community and participate in eight hours of advanced training opportunities. Missouri’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program. Stay Strong, Stay Healthy- Level 2 is a follow-up to Level 1. It is for those who want to challenge themselves a bit more! Over eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each session, a prescribed set of eight to 10 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. In order to enroll in the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy–Level 2 program, you must have completed the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy-Level 1 program at least twice. Participants are made to feel comfortable and are encouraged to gradually build the strength beneficial to health. All equipment is provided.

"FSMA Food Safety Training," a workshop designed for commercial fruit and vegetable producers, will be held from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on March 14 at the Dallas County R-1 School Administration Building at 1323 S. Ash St. Buffalo, MO. A registration fee of $50 will be charged to cover the cost of materials, lunch, and expenses for the guest speakers. Produce growers are encouraged to attend this workshop, which will satisfy the mandated training requirement for FSMA compliance. The FSMA mandated training includes modules on worker health and hygiene, soil amendments, wildlife and domesticated animals, production water, postharvest water, and postharvest handling and sanitation. Additional topics on the meeting agenda include developing a farm food safety plan, including a traceback system.

Focus on Kids is a program to help parents learn how to nurture and support their children through the divorce process and to help parents who are living apart develop ways to work together effectively as co-parents. Focus on Kids satisfies Missouri's educational requirement for parents who are divorcing or filing a motion to modify. It is conducted in cooperation with Missouri’s circuit courts.

Description:

Missouri Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program.Stay Strong, Stay Healthy- Level 2 is a follow-up to Level 1. It is for those who want to challenge themselves a bit more! During the eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each session, a prescribed set of eight to 10 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. In order to enroll in the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy Level 2 program, you must have completed the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy-Level 1 program at least twice. Participants are made to feel comfortable and are encouraged to gradually build the strength beneficial to health. All equipment is provided.

Session topic:

Participants will complete a warm-up, 8-10 strength training exercises, and a cool-down that includes stretching.
