    Republic Neighborhood Project Learning Groups (Session 5 of 5)

    We are hosting informal “who is my neighbor” learning groups starting Friday, Sept 27 and then every Friday in October from 7:00 am to 9 am at the Kum and Go at Hwy 60 and Hwy MM. This is a come and go format. Is met to be a training and discussion about the neighborhood effort. Bring your chart as we discuss how to get to know your neighbors, challenges and success stories. We will also discuss how to go forward as we work together to make Republic a friendly city.

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 Sedalia (Pettis County) (Session 1 of 16)

    Description:

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults access to a safe, structured, and effective strength-training program. Over eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each class, a prescribed set of eight upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    Session topic:

    Participants will complete a warm-up, 8 strength training exercises, and a cool-down that includes stretching.

    A Matter of Balance (Session 4 of 8)

    Matter of Balance is an award winning program that focuses on reducing the fear of falling and increasing the activity levels of older adults who may have concerns about falls. The 8-week course includes information on how to set realistic goals for increasing physical activity, how to view falls and the fear of falling as controllable, and how to make changes in your home and environment to prevent falls.

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy Level 2 (Session 13 of 17)

    Description:

    This MU Extension strength-training program can get your fitness journey (re)started. Participants will be guided safely by a trained instructor through warm up, eight muscle-strengthening exercises and cool down. Equipment is provided. The class is targeted toward older and sedentary middle-aged adults. There are no age limits. You must have completed Stay Strong, Stay Healthy Level 1 to enroll in this class.

    Chronic Disease Self-Management - Ralls County (Session 1 of 6)

    Description:

    Chronic Disease Self-management is a six week course.
    The teaching process makes this program effective. Classes are highly participatory. Mutual support and success builds participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.
    Participants make weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program. Physicians and other health professionals both at Stanford and in the community have reviewed all materials in the workshop.
    Subjects covered are:
    •Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation.
    • Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
    • Appropriate use of medications
    • Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
    • Nutrition
    • Decision making
    • How to evaluate new treatments
    The class meets once a week for two hours for a total of six weeks.

    Beef Cattle Artificial Insemination School

    Classroom and hands-on practice of beef cattle insemination and methodology. Learn about synchronization techniques and basic reproductive anatomy.
