    Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention (Session 9 of 16)

    Description:

    Tai chi is one of the most effective, easy to learn, exercises for health of mind and body. The Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention program is designed to improve multiple aspects of health through slow, gentle movements that can be practiced almost anywhere. The degree of exertion can be easily adjusted making this program suitable for adults of all levels and abilities. Published medical studies have shown benefits such as pain relief, improved balance and reduced falls. You will learn warm-up exercises, 6 Basic and 6 Advanced moves, and a cool down during 16 one hour classes. Harmony of inner and outer self comes from integrating mind and body, which can be achieved through the ongoing practice of tai chi.

    Complete your financial management education with this third course in our seminar series. This class is designed to teach you how to create and use a cash budget to plan for future business performance. During this course, you will learn to estimate future sources and uses of cash. You will also learn how to analyze your predictions to make more informed decisions. You should leave this session feeling more comfortable about decisions related to preparing for growth, realistic loan and financing requests, how much cash you can safely take out of the business, and how to make affordable purchases for your business. At its conclusion, you should be able to: forecast sales, receivables and expenses, use a cash budget to create a month-by-month view and calculate Break-Even, as it relates to business expansions, workforce additions or capital expenditures. $109. per person.

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 (Session 11 of 16)

    When:  Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

    Description:

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide inactive middle-aged and older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

    SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    SSSH is modeled after the evidenced-based StrongWomen program developed by researchers at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science at Tufts University. While the original Tufts program includes only women, University of Missouri Extension has adapted the curriculum to include men.

    Participants must register to attend event. For MU employees, 100 wellness points may be obtained per 8 week session if 14/16 classes are attended.
