Engagement and Stakeholder Relations (Session 3 of 5)

In every Missouri County, an MU Extension council, comprised of elected and appointed citizens, guides local educational programming. County council members are partners in the entire educational process, from needs assessment through program implementation and evaluation of outcomes. Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 (Session 7 of 16)

Description:

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide inactive middle-aged and older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

Stronger Economies Together-Rivers Confluence Region (Session 1 of 2)

Hickory County Master Gardener Program (Session 1 of 9)

Description:

The Master Gardener volunteer program began in the early 1970’s in response to the rapidly increasing interest in home gardening. The idea was to train knowledgeable garden volunteers to help University Extension staff deliver home gardening information to the public. Today, the Master Gardener volunteer program is recognized nationally as a means for individuals to learn and to share horticultural knowledge with others.A successful candidate for the program is anyone able and willing to donate volunteer hours in the community and/or MU Extension education programs. Course consists of ten, 3-hour sessions covering the following topics:
Understanding Soil and Plant Nutrition
Plant Growth and Development
Annual / Floral and Vegetable Production
Perennial Gardening (Trees, Shrubs, and Perennial plants)
Raised Bed and Container Grown Gardening
Insect and/or Integrated Pest Management
Fruit Trees, Bramble Berries, and Grape Production
Lawn and Turf Management
Plant Diagnostics and Disease Control

Courses will be conducted by MU Extension Specialists and other professionals.
The program inspires increased economic development and social viability in rural Missouri.

Session topic:

Plant Growth and Development as well as Plant Propagation both vegetative and by seed.
