Private Pesticide Applicator Training in Vienna (Maries County)

Description:

Missouri law requires all purchasers and users of restricted-use pesticides to attend a training session to be certified for a private applicators license. During this training, participants will learn about safe handling of pesticides, proper mixing, calibration techniques, environmental ramifications of improper mixing or careless application, chemical breakdown of pesticides in the environment, what records are needed, pesticide formulations, personal protective wear and how to clean it, pesticide storage, common MO pests, and integrated pest management (IPM).

Stay Strong Stay Healthy - Independence (Session 7 of 16)

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength-training program. Over eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each class, a prescribed set of eight upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

Oregon County Private Pesticide Applicator Training

This training will be held in the Oregon County Courthouse Basement in Alton.

Description:

Missouri law requires all purchasers and users of restricted-use pesticides to attend a training session to be certified for a private applicators license. Many commonly used pesticides require a private applicator license. The training will allow individuals to recertify or receive initial training to be licensed to purchase and apply restricted-use pesticides on property owned or rented. Make sure to look at the expiration date on your license to see if you need to recertify. Once the training is complete, Missouri Department of Agriculture will issue a license that is good for five years. Individuals wishing to attend must be 18 years of age or older. Individuals unable to attend the training class can receive their license by watching a video at your local Extension Office. Please call the office to schedule a time.

Private pesticide applicator training will focus on the use of dicamba resistant soybean technology. The new dicamba formulations are restricted use and so require a private applicator license. A training manual is required for licensing. If you have an old manual, please bring it to the meeting. All meetings will begin at 8:30 a.m. Following applicator training, the University of Missouri Agricultural Extension staff will present “Tips to Reduce Input Costs without Reducing Yield,” “Dicamba Injury and Insurance” and “Minerals and Vitamins for beef cattle: meeting requirements without breaking the bank.”

Beginning Farmers "Building It from the Ground Up Program" (Bolivar, MO) (Session 3 of 9)

Description:

This program is designed to address the needs of land owners looking to improve their property as well as their outputs and profitability over the long run of the operation. Realizing finances may be limited and/or restricted we will be working with those individuals trying to make sound economic decisions about their operations. Targeting both new and old land owners/operators looking to run up to 30-75 breeding cows, 100 stockers, 50-75 breeding goats and/or sheep, or a small registered livestock operation, on farms ranging from 20-160+ acres, operated as a part time and/or hobby farm as well as the full time farmer. This may not be their sole source of income, but a part-time occupation, recreational/retirement farm. It is not only about making a living on the farm, but about living on the farm, raising children on the farm, and having the rural way of life. The farm just needs to pay for itself and if it makes a little money along the way….. Great! Each program will consist of two or three segments, running approximately 45-90 minutes, with a break in between allowing for questions and refreshments. You may attend only the evenings you want or sign up to attend the entire program. The choice is yours.

Session #3 Cow/ calf operation: Selection, feeding, breeding, balancing your hay value with supplementation, health concerns and issues, vaccinations, worming, calving, etc.
