Soil Testing:  Cost: $15.00.  You will receive results within 2 weeks normally. See MU Guidesheet G6954 for information on how to collect a lawn or garden soil sample.

Guide Sheets:  University Extension offers guide sheets on topics such as business and industry, farm management, agricultural engineering, farm equipment, soil, water, beef. sheep, swine, horses, soybeans, corn, small grains, forages, forestry, fruits, vegetables, landscaping, lawns, trees, insect and diseases of plants & animals, clothing & textiles, food and nutrition, family economics & management, canning, freezing, human relations and farm building plans. Most guide sheets can be found on our Xplor website or can be purchased at your local university extension center for a minimal charge.

Canner Testing: Bring your dial-type pressure canner lid to extension center for testing and examination. Dial-type gauges should be tested annually to ensure accuracy and prevent bacterial contamination of preserved foods. (Testing is not necessary for weighted gauges.) Testing is offered for a nominal fee of $1 per gauge. Takes approximately 30 minutes to test.

Video Library: The Adair County Extension Center houses an extensive media library with video tapes, cassette tapes and books on a wide range of subjects. Contact us for a flyer that shows what's available. Presently, there is no charge for checking out video tapes.

Pesticide License Certification & Recertification:  No charge.  In order to purchase and use restricted use pesticides, you must have a private applicator license. Please contact the Adair County Extension Center to set up an appointment to take the 1 1/2 hour training (on a VCR tape or CD-ROM) and fill out some forms.

Insect Identification:  If you have an insect that you can't identify, we can help. Please bring the insect to the office in a container of some kind as soon as you can.  If we cannot identify it locally, we will send it to our lab at the University of Missouri-Columbia and get an identification. There is a $15.00 charge for insect identifications at the University of Missouri.

Plant Identification:  We can assist you in identifying a plant that you want to know the name of or a plant disease and how (or if) to treat that problem. We will need as much of the plant as possible (roots if possible) and will need some information such as how long the disease has been happening, location of the plant, etc. If we cannot identify it locally, we will send it to the University of Missouri at Columbia and get an identification. There is a charge to send it to the University of Missouri.

Plant Nematode Tests:  Cost is $10 to $25.  Nematodes are very damaging to soybeans, some vegetable and fruit crops, and other plants. Samples need to taken and handled in very certain ways. Contact our office for help.

Veterinary Lab Services:   These can vary.  The University of Missouri's Veterinary Lab provides many services for livestock producers. Animals can be sent or taken to the lab when sick or after death to determine what's wrong. You should contact your local vet first.

The Adair County Extension Office also has access to other labs that can test for water, seed germination, and chemical residues.

Meeting Facility:  The basement of the Adair County Extension Center is available to rent for family reunions, meetings, receptions, birthday parties, etc.  We have a full kitchen, restrooms and several chairs and tables. The facility is air conditioned and heated. A deposit and rental fee apply. Please note that the facility is not handicapped accessible.
