The
Macon-Shelby Master Gardener Group was formed in February 2000. This group is
composed of Macon and Shelby county residents.
The MSMG
group is very active in a variety activities, including several beautification projects
and community service activities.

Macon-Shelby Master Gardener Activities
Tree Tour on the University of
Missouri-Columbia Campus: The MSMG club planned a
tree tour of the University of Missouri - Columbia Campus in June 2000. The tour was
lead by Dr. Chris Starbuck, associate professor of woody ornamentals at UMC. Many
club members attended the event.
Beautification Project at the First
Christian Church in Macon: The MSMG club designed, installed, and
maintains a landscaping planting of roses around the sign of the First Christian Church in
Macon. The landscape was installed in June of 2000.
Garden Tours: The MSMG
club planned several garden tours for its members. During these tours, members have
the opportunity to see what plants and practices others have used in their gardens, as
well share ideas with others.
Nursing Home Programs: Each
month the Macon Master Gardener's, along with horticulture
specialist Jennifer Barnes-Schutter, provide gardening programs for
residents at two nursing homes in Macon.
Other Activities:
Includes State Master Gardener conference photo and Daffodil Days.
