Magic City Master Gardener's have a Winner in Bird House Drawing
Moberly resident, Mr. Donald Schaffer, is the winner of the Birdhouse
Condo. This unique birdhouse was built out of recycled wood from an old
barn built in 1931. This barn was on John Tregnago's farm and used to
house work horses. John's son, Richard, and daughter-in-law, Pat, built
this five foot tall decorative birdhouse in early 2005 and donated it to
the Master Gardener's. They constructed this "one of a kind condo" for
the club to use as a fund raiser. This has proven to be a fun project
for the club. We thank them for this generous gift and we send a
gracious thank you to each of you for purchasing a ticket and supporting
us. We have been made to feel very welcome by the businesses and
citizens of Moberly.
MOBERLY AREA MASTER GARDENER CLUB NEWLY FORMED
By: Tony Sloan, club chairman
Master Gardeners are here! On November 29th, 2004, 25 individuals
successfully completed beginning training for University of Missouri’s
Extension Master Gardener Program. The Master Gardener Program is to
help provide education and training with support from the University of
Missouri Extension program in the field of horticulture. The Master
Gardeners are in the process of organizing a local club that will
include the Chariton, Howard, Monroe, and Randolph county areas.
The garden Club will meet the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
at the Trinity UMC in Moberly located at 4th and Rollins. The meetings
will consist of a short business meeting then a program which is open to
the public. The programs will vary from members presenting plant
profiles to guest speakers giving presentations on various topics
regarding the Green Industry and horticulture.
The Club is currently working on the 30 hours of Community service
required to complete the Master Gardeners requirements for
certification. Elections of officers were held, and several committees
were established to begin developing by-laws, programming for future
meetings, trips/tours of local gardens and landscapes, and selecting a
name for the new garden club. The club voted to call themselves the
Magic City Master Gardeners.

These Randolph County Master Gardeners attended the State Master
Gardener Conference in Columbia recently.
