Dr. Mable Jones Grimes honored

photo of Dr. Mable Jones GrimesThe Mizzou Alumni Association hosted a Black Alumni Celebration and Spring Picnic on April 18. As part of the celebration, the association honored Dr. Mable Jones Grimes, a longtime Mizzou faculty and staff member.

Grimes served with MU Extension for 37 years before retiring. She currently serves as a volunteer for ParentLink, a program operating out of the College of Education.

Grimes was born in Malden, Mo., in the state’s Boot Heel region. She enrolled at Mizzou in 1961, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1965, a Master of Science degree in 1968, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1976.

She was a member of the Black Alumni Organization’s first executive committee and wrote the preface to the 1994 publication titled “The African-American Experience at the University of Missouri: 1950 – 1994,” which chronicled the history of the Black student experiences on campus.
